Tiruchirapalli RockFort Temples

Ucchi Pillayar Temple and Thayumanaswamy temple are two temples presesnt abode a Rock Hill in Tiruchy, Tamilnadu. Temple is closer to Chathiram Bus Stand, one of four BusTerminus of Tiruchy.

One would come across Sacred Pond of Temple adjoining Market, before reaching Temple Premises.



Unlike other Major Temples of Tiruchy/Tamilnadu, this temple premises doesnt have dedicated Road or Raja Gopura, which makes an unique experience on visiting Temple.


One needs to climb few hundred steps before reaching Thayumanaswamy temple. The Temple has very restricted Time viewings. Thayumanaswamy Temple Legend is associated with Shiva taking form of Mother to help her ardent women devotee, deliver baby. The Temple also resides Amman Shrine in form of Mattuvar Kuzhalammai. The Temple Shrine is said to be constructed during Pandyan Empire.

On reaching top of hill, one would come across Ucchi Pillayar Shrine.


Ucchi Pillayar Temple resides Ganesha/Ganpati/Pillayar. The temple is said to have been constructed during times of Pallava, Chola and Vijayanagar Kingdoms. The Temple offers stunning view of City.

Madukkarai Dharmalingeshwarar Temple

Dharmalingeshwarar Temple is Located about 10 kms away from Coimbatore at Madukkarai. The Shrine is Located on Top of Hill which can be reached through Steps only.


The Principal deity, DharmaLingeshwarar was said to have been worshipped by Eldest of Pandava Brothers, Dharma atop Hill. His Brother, Bheema is said to have stayed at bottom of hill and there is a statue dedicated to him at foot of hill.

Other Shrines at foot of hill include for Goddess, Vinayaga, Navagraha and Lingas. Primary Deity can be reached through steps only. Steps at Bottom and Top of Hill are in excellent condition, while steps in between are in pathetic condition. People are not advised to climb during Rainy days.

On the way to Top, one can see an excellent view of Madukkarai and its surroundings



Grand steps welcome us at entrance of Dharma Lingeshwar Shrine. Dharmalingeshwar, Vinayaga, Murugan shrines are in Temple Complex. Through Shrine is small, it provides us a sense of tranquility, serene.


How to Reach temple

Temple is located on a Hill, which can be easily accessed through Roads. Plenty of Buses ply between Coimbatore and Madukkarai. Best Time to Visit Temple is either at Early Mornings or at Evenings

Uratchikottai Vedagiriswarar Temple

Uratchikottai Vedagiriswarar Temple is situated at 5 kms from nearest town, Bhavani, Erode District, Tamilnadu. The Temple is located on a Hill. Thought the Temple is located near to Uratichkottai Bus stop, Hill base can be reached only through foot path.



No Vehicles are allowed to climb the Temple, as Path is made up of Rocks. Climbing Vedagiriswarar Temple is ardent Task, Heart attack prone Patients are strictly advised to not to climb the Hill. Best time to climb the Hill is at morning before 10 A.M and Evenings after 4 P.M


Hill Provides excellent view of Mother Cauvery River from the Top.


On reaching the Top of Hill, one will come across shrines of VedaVinayagar, Veda Nayagai, Kalayaana Subramanian,Vedagiriswarar in small temples. Behind them is a temple complex which resideds Veda Narayanan, and other Vaishnavite deities. There is a Vast Space in front of Temple, which can accomodate hundreds of people at same time.


Temple doubles up as excellent Mountain Trekking spot. Spirituality and calmness associated with temple is also not to be missed.

How To Reach Temple

Only By Road. 5 kms from Bhavani, on Mettur Road. 19 kms from Erode. Nearest Bus stop is Uratchikottai Bus Stop.
